Cleeve Shaping as Top Showdown

A heavily anticipated meeting appears likely for the 2014 Cleeve Hurdle, with At Fishers Cross on course to face off with Big Buck’s in the classic Cheltenham event one week from Saturday.

Having claimed six races including an impressive showing in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle last season, At Fishers Cross has been less-than impressive in events at both Ascot and Newbury this season; all but ending any chance of becoming a legitimate chance for the Ladbrokes World Hurdle this campaign, as previously hoped.

Trainer Rebecca Curtis recently discussed the extensive treatment given to At Fishers Cross in an attempt to solve a reasonable number of physical issues.

“He’s had lots of treatment over here – he didn’t go to Ireland – including acupuncture. We’ll have to see if it had worked, but he seems better in himself and I’m hopeful” Curtis said.

“The plan is to go for the Cleeve Hurdle at the end of the month and make a decision about Cheltenham after that.”

Looking more likely to miss the Cleeve Hurdle is More Of That.

More Of That has been one of this season’s big improvers; beginning the campaign in a Class 3 handicap hurdle at Wetherby and eventually completing his first hat-trick with victory in the Grade 2 Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham last time out.

Trainer Jonjo O’Neill recently told Racingpost.com “He’s enjoying a break at the moment and definitely won’t be running anywhere in January. Cheltenham in March is very much in the front of our minds, but I’m not sure which race he will go for.”

Expected to continue his rise in form, More Of That is currently sitting as a 6-1 hope at Bet365 Bet365 for the World Hurdle, while At Fishers Cross is a juicier 13-1.
